South of I-40, going west, just before Grants, NM there are amazing Sandstone Bluffs to explore. The bluffs are within El Malpais National Monument. The views include Dakota Sandstone, Mount Taylor (snow peaked in the distance), lava flows, and one big sky. There are trails down below in the area, but the views from above are gorgeous. The formation’s shapes, sky, snowy patches, and contrasting colors from the sandstone patina to the vistas inspired a series of small collages.
